Director, Visual Merchandising



Position Overview:


Reporting to the Senior Director of Visual Merchandising, the Director is responsible for the design and implementation of visual merchandising strategies inside The Home Depot stores. The Director is responsible for supporting and providing thought leadership in a visual merchandising capacity for their assigned merchandising departments and to partner closely with senior leaders in Home Depot’s merchandising organization. In addition to being thoughtful about the desired in-store experience, the Director will be directly responsible for bringing together a high-performing team to leverage available resources (both internal and external) to create value in an In-Store Experience capacity. This role is also responsible for balancing art and science. This means data analytics, customer insights, and analysis of the market landscape need to be taken into account when developing the in-store merchandising experiences.


Cross-functional partnership is an absolute requirement for success in this role. Ability to partner closely with In-Store Environment’s Planning and Space departments, Store Operations, MET, and multiple outside agencies.


Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

  • 30% – Visual Strategy, Direction, and Vision – Role requires the ability to set the in-store experience strategy and vision for the stores of today as well as future in-store experiences for the assigned merchandising departments.

  • 30% – Alignment Activities – It takes a village to bring together world-class in-store experiences and visual merchandising. The Director will need to ensure their team is aligned with and interacting with all relevant cross-functional partners in an optimal manner.

  • 20% – People Development & Leadership – Ability to attract and lead a high-performing team that is focused on continuous improvement in all areas.

  • 15% – Design Activities – Thinking end to end, design activities refers to everything from concepting, requirements gathering, data gathering, creative design thinking, prototyping to support of actual in-store deployment and measuring the effectiveness.

  • 5% – Support Tasks – Support tasks range from providing any necessary visual merchandising support to new company initiatives or store remodels to ensuring transparency with project pipelines and status to ISE Leadership.

Supports other tasks and duties as business needs dictate.


Nature and Scope: This position reports to the Sr. Director, Visual Merchandising. This position has 3-6 direct reports.

Environmental Job Requirements:


Environment: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


Travel: Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.


Qualifications:


Standard Minimum Qualifications:

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.


Education Required:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.


Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years


Physical Requirements: Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


Preferred Qualifications: – Experience with strategy development and implementation, data analytics, creative development, and an understanding of visual merchandising – Experience working in the retail industry
