Four Student Designers Awarded 2022 Kevin Roche Recognition Scholarship

Hollywood, Fla. (December 5, 2022)— PAVE Global in partnership with Kevin Roche (Roche Design Strategy) are pleased to announce the 2022 recipients of the Kevin Roche Recognition Scholarship.

This scholarship recognizes and supports leadership potential in current students pursuing degrees in Interior Design, Graphic Design, UX Design, Product Design, Visual Merchandising, and Architecture, with a focus on the retail environments, restaurant, or hospitality industries.

In an unprecedented turn of events, this year four students were selected to be awarded this once-in-a-lifetime scholarship and mentorship opportunity.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2022 Kevin Roche Recognition Scholarship!

In the spirit of mentorship, this scholarship was designed to not only support deserving students financially with a $2,000 award but more importantly support them professionally in that the recipients will also receive 20 hours of Kevin's time for one-on-one mentorship and introductions to global design agencies for internships and post-graduation career opportunities. Additionally, expenses have been covered for this year’s recipients to attend the PAVE Gala on December 8th in New York City where they will be recognized amongst their peers and industry professionals while networking and making new connections.

Applicants were asked to provide a written and visual response to 3 topics/questions- 1. Discuss your thoughts on the role of beauty versus function in design and how you would describe visual intelligence. 2. How would you consider Multi-Cultural influences in your designs? 3. How could you imagine your contribution as a designer and as a global citizen? Their responses were inspiring, thought-provoking, and personal; selecting just one was not an easy task.

When I began to read all 18 submissions it took the better part of my Sunday while working in Paris to sort through each and begin to compile what I felt were the finalist, from the 18 to 10 and then to 4. That’s where the challenge began. There was not one clear submission of the four that stood out as all four spoke to me for very different reasons," said Mr. Roche. "I decided there was no one submission I could choose as each left a vivid impression. After a few days of consideration, I decided to select the four to each receive this award... I was humbled when reading each and filled with hope for our global humanity!”

The 2021 KRR Scholarship recipient Vira Williams from O'More College of Architecture & Design at Belmont University had this to say about her mentorship experience- “Meeting Kevin last year was huge to me. Having connection to him as a mentor and a friend has been very instrumental. I had a wonderful opportunity to work in LA this past summer thanks to Kevin. This experience taught me a variety of skills needed to communicate good design. It helped me to grow professionally. And Kevin was there for me. We met in person a few times during my visit to LA. He cares a lot about mentoring young people, like me, and he always makes sure that I have all I need to be able to grow. He had absolutely made an impact on my starting career and in my life, to be honest. Kevin continues to mentor and support me even today, a year later. It means a lot to me, and I am very grateful to him.”

The PAVE Scholarship Program, now in its thirteenth year, provides financial assistance and mentorship experiences to students in educational programs preparing them for careers designing and creating consumer environments. PAVE's Scholarship, Student Aid, and Student Experience Programs have proudly granted over $276,500 to students globally over the last five years.
